1 dead, 12 injured in series of drive-by shootings in Arizona; suspect in custody

  Arizona police had a suspect in custody after one person was killed and 12 other people were injured in a series of what appeared to be drive-by shootings Thursday. 11111111 Peoria police said 19-year-old Ashin Tricarico of the town of Surprise was booked Friday morning on suspicion of murder, aggravated assault, drive-by shooting and endangerment. "His motive is still unknown at this point as detectives are still sorting through evidence to determine exactly what occurred," the department said in a statement. Many were caught on tape, some with their faces visible. Others even posted their own videos of their actions those nights on social media. Hundreds were arrested. But a review of NYPD data by the investigative team at WNBC, the NBC owned station in New York, shows that a large percentage of the cases — particularly in the Bronx — were dismissed, and that many convictions were for counts like trespassing that carry no jail time. "I was in total shock that everything is being brushed off to the side," said Jessica Betancourt, who owns an eyeglass shop that was looted and destroyed along Burnside Avenue in the Bronx last June. Family float trip ends in tragedy after group went over North Carolina dam

Searchers on Friday spent a second day scouring a North Carolina river for a 30-year-old woman and a 7-year-old boy missing since they went over a dam during a family float trip. Three people, including a 14-year-old, were found dead Thursday after nine relatives on inflatable tubes in the Dan River went over the dam around nightfall Wednesday, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said. Four people were rescued, and two others, Teresa Villino, 30, and Isiah Crawford, 7, remained missing, the office  said . "This is a very tragic situation," Sheriff Sam Page said at a news conference Friday, adding that the search will continue. "We want to find these people and make sure they're OK," he said. Gavin Newsom at an event in Oakland has been arrested, authorities said Friday. 1111111111 Newsom was walking to a pizza shop to promote small businesses Thursday morning when he "was approached by an aggressive individual," the California Highway Patrol, which provides Newsom's security detail, said in a statement. "Members of the Governor's security detail removed the Governor from the situation, and the individual was arrested by CHP officers," the agency said.
